Promotion within platform rules: what each channel actually permits
A plain-language map of where adult-adjacent creators can promote, organically and with money, as of October 2026.
Most arguments about "what works" for creator promotion skip the first question: is it allowed? As of October 2026, the published positions we read are consistent. Google Ads restricts sexual content to Search, with age and SafeSearch limits and no Display, YouTube or Gmail placements. Meta and TikTok prohibit sexual services, products and suggestive creative in ads. X permits labelled, consensual adult content organically but prohibits adult sexual content in ads globally. Reddit communities set their own rules and verification, and paid placement is not available for this category.
That makes organic-first the only honest plan: your own site (the one channel nobody can switch off), labelled organic posting on X, verified community participation on Reddit, SFW brand-side content on Instagram and TikTok that links to a non-explicit page, opted-in email, and disclosed collaborations. Search ads are at most a small, non-explicit experiment.
Two rules apply everywhere. Disclose paid or exchanged promotion clearly and conspicuously; the FTC says platform labels alone may not be enough and that "results not typical" does not fix a results claim. And never automate direct messages or buy engagement: both break platform terms, and bought reviews and fake social proof now carry civil penalties in the US.
Our sprint planner encodes these positions per channel with a version date, so a plan generated today carries the rules it was built under. When a platform changes its policy, we update the version and the plan says so.
